Robert Zemeckis in negotiations to direct The Wizard of Oz Remake
The proposed film will be as true to the classic film that Warner Bros is still planning on using the original script of the film. There are some movies that should never be remade. I hope everyone agrees with me when I say I think this sounds terrible and completely unnecessary. One such movie is The Wizard of Oz.
That movie, which Sam Raimi directed, is currently in pre-production with Robert Downey Jr. to star as the wizard in this version is “a charlatan who is part of a traveling circus, but goes on a quest similar to Dorothy when mysterious land of Oz. “According to Time, this could be a move by Warner Bros to compete with Disney’s The Great and Powerful Oz.
Earlier this year, Drew Barrymore signed on to direct and star in Surrender Dorothy, where they play “the great-granddaughter, lots of Dorothy who has to learn to use the power of the ruby slippers to keep the Wicked Witch of the West take control of the kingdoms of the Earth and Oz. “This is not the only movie Wizard of Oz told that is currently under construction, however.
The other film was Josh Olson (A History of Violence) as a scriptwriter with Todd MacFarlane (creator of Spawn) on board to produce. However, Steve later heard through some sources that “nothing is happening to each project at this time.”We have also heard rumors in March that Warner Bros was planning two different projects Wizard of Oz. Screenwriter Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever) had been hired to write a film, then going to Oz, and it was really all I knew about that movie.
It will definitely be interesting to see if Warner Bros. and Robert Zemeckis have the guts to so close remake of a movie that is beloved as The Wizard of Oz. Zemeckis’ next film, a film in 3D motion capture based on 168 off of The Beatles movie / album Yellow Submarine album, will open sometime in 2012. Also recently signed on to direct his first live action film in years with film time travel, no time.
With projects currently Wizard of Oz so many pre-production, is a good chance that the first to get in front of the cameras will be the only fact. More as we hear
