NEWS: Mel Gibson’s new statement

By AltBakh

If Mel Gibson [in the picture on your finally released DUI mugshot left] said that, first, things could have gone a little better for him in the last few days: Tuesday, August 1, 2006:
I am a public person, and when I say something, either articulated and thought out, or blurted out in a moment of insanity, my words carry weight in the public arena. As a result, I must assume personal responsibility for my words and apologize directly to those who have been hurt and offended by the words
But please know from my heart that I am not an antisemite. The principles of what we profess to believe need to exercise charity and tolerance as a way of life. I’m not a fanatic. Every human being is a child of God, and if I want to honor my God, I have to honor their children. Hatred of any kind goes against my faith
I would go one step further, and meet with Jewish community leaders with whom one can have a discussion to discern the appropriate path for healingI’m not asking for forgiveness.
I know there will be many in the community who want nothing to do with me, and it would be understandable. Once again, I’m coming to the Jewish community for their help. I have begun an ongoing program of recovery and what I’m realizing is you can not do it alone. But I pray that that door is not closed forever meI am in the process of understanding where those vicious words came from that show drunk, and I am asking the Jewish community, whom I have personally offended, to help me in my journey through recovery.
This is real life and recognizing the consequences hurtful words can have. Nor is it artistic license. This is not a movie. These are existing in harmony in a world that seems to have gone mad.
