No more than one Hersholt, not more than Thalberg award voted in a given year. The Academy Board will meet in extraordinary session in September for the sole purpose of selecting the honorees of the year. No more than four awards will be given witness in a single year
In setting the limits we have, the Board members feel they have achieved the right balance.”We wanted more flexibility with these awards,” said Ganis. “But we also need to maintain their integrity.

The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and Honor Award Oscar statuettes, the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award is a bust of its namesake. Most of the ultimate beneficiaries of each were Jerry Lewis (Hersholt Award) in the 81 th ceremony of the Academy Awards ® in February of this year, Robert Boyle (Honorable Mention) in the 80 th Awards Ceremony Academy in February 2008, and Dino De Laurentiis (Thalberg Award) in the 73rd ceremony of the Academy Awards in March 2001
